RifCom
Charity Challenge.
RifCom is a non-profit charitable organisation run by volunteers from Gibraltar and Spain who are committed to making a real difference to their neighbouring communities in the Rif Mountains of Morocco, living within their sight and yet living in poverty.
This year’s Challenge will take the participants from the heart of Gibraltar to the heart of the Rif over four full, challenging, competitive and exhilarating days (returning home on the fifth day). The 2010 Challenge will start with a race across the Straits of Gibraltar, either by private yacht or by any other means possible (within set limits). Upon arrival, under the watchful eyes of professional guides, the teams are taken deep into the Rif mountains on foot, navigating through the wilderness, experiencing a variety of different challenges, both physical and mental, camping out in nature while witnessing how the Rif mountain people live and experiencing some of their culture and lifestyle.
It will retain an edge of competitiveness between teams seeking to gain the coveted RifCom Challenge Trophy, but the target for everyone will be to reach the beautiful Rif town of Chefchaouen, a comfortable bed, shower and celebration dinner! All of this in a country which is within sight of our everyday lives yet is a world away in every other sense.
Societe Generale Private Banking Hambros Gibraltar will be participating in this year’s event with a team of six individuals. The team will consist of: Johnathan Almeida, Terence Polson, Basil Gaivizo, Chris Gabay, Dilip Bhojwani, Sean Torrilla and Jason Rocca.
Sapphire wishes them all the best of luck in this years challenge.
