Network Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to Head of Network Engineering and Operations, the Access Network Engineer will:

  • Design and supervise the implementation of the network
  • Participate in managing and maintaining the core and access network
  • Design and develop parts of the network, including capacity management
  • Configure monitoring systems and develop network automation tools
  • Participate in vendor selection and testing for new network elements
  • Support VoIP systems, including SBC and softswitch equipment as part of a team
  • Provide the necessary documentation and processes, for the 24x7 NOC team
  • Participate in 24/7 call-out rota

Required Technical Skills

  • Networking technologies to advanced level (IP / MPLS / Ethernet / Multicast)
  • Understanding of QoS methodologies across a carrier backbone
  • Experience with routing protocols (Multiprotocol BGP, IS-IS, OSPF)
  • MPLS VPN technologies, including VPLS, L3VPN, L2VPN
  • Voice technologies including SIP and SS7
  • Scripting and automation tools (Python / Perl / NETCONF)
  • Familiar with fibre optic standards and multiplexing principles at the physical layer
  • Vendor certifications from Cisco or Juniper (CCNP / JNCIS)

  • Familiarity with multi-vendor networking environments at scale
  • Juniper and/or Cisco routing and switching experience (essential)
  • Previous experience in a telecoms environment
  • Track record of successful project delivery
  • Good industry knowledge and community participation
